Service Experts mobilizes "Home Comfort Squad" to help low-income elderly residents prepare for summer

Release date: 6/19/2006

Local Heating and Cooling Company Partners with Community-Based Organization to Provide Free Air Conditioning Tune-Ups for Pre-Selected Low-Income Elderly Residents During the Week of June 19

With the first day of summer just around the corner, BW Heating & Cooling, a local heating and cooling service company and part of the Service Experts network, today announced the launch of the Service Experts Home Comfort Squad, a community service initiative established to provide free air conditioning maintenance to help area homeowners prepare for the hot months ahead.  Trained BW Heating & Cooling Service Experts Home Comfort Squad technicians will provide a “Week of Service” during the week of June 19 to elderly residents in the Mishawaka/South Bend area, in partnership with St. Vincent de Paul Society, a St. Joseph county community-based agency providing financial and emergency assistance to residents in need.  The Service Experts Home Comfort Squad will provide pre-season maintenance of the air conditioning systems of homeowners identified by St. Vincent de Paul Society, as well as indoor air quality checks, with an emphasis on ensuring residents’ comfort and safety are properly maintained during the summer months.

“With the higher temperatures that are expected in the area this summer, it’s important for us to watch out for our neighbors who may be particularly susceptible to the change in weather.  Our Service Experts Home Comfort Squad members have enthusiastically volunteered to provide this essential service to help low-income elderly residents, who often suffer during extreme temperatures,” said Doug Gabbard, general manager of BW Heating & Cooling.

During the visits, Service Experts technicians from BW Heating & Cooling will provide full system checks and tune-ups for all cooling equipment, as well as safety inspections to identify potential electrical hazards.

The BW Heating & Cooling Service Experts Home Comfort Squad will also conduct indoor air quality checks to identify factors that could affect indoor air quality, such as humidity levels, and evaluate the condition of the home’s ductwork.

“The mission of St. Vincent de Paul Society is to help their neighbors in need, one person or one family at a time, and we are pleased to collaborate with Service Experts and BW Heating & Cooling in particular to provide a safe and comfortable home environment for seniors and low-income residents in our community,” said Lisa Kochanowski, community relations of St. Vincent de Paul Society.  “We’re grateful for the Home Comfort Squad program, which should have a definite positive impact on those in need.”

The mission of the Service Experts Home Comfort Squad is to partner with charitable organizations to provide needed maintenance for air conditioning systems to homeowners in need, with an emphasis on ensuring residents’ comfort and safety during periods of extreme hot and cold temperatures.
Consumers in the Mishawaka/South Bend area who are interested in a consultation to assess their home’s current heating and cooling system can contact BW Heating & Cooling at (574) 259-7847.
