The Ban on R22 Refrigerant
R-22 Refrigerant Phasing Out
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) determined that R-22 refrigerant (also known as the brand FREON®), a common refrigerant for residential heat pumps and air conditioning systems, is not environmentally-friendly. The EPA is regulating the production and use of refrigerants and ultimately all of the air conditioning and heat pump refrigerants that contain chlorine will be eliminated.
What does this mean for you?
If you currently have a heating and cooling system that uses R-22 refrigerant, it does not mean you have to panic or run out to purchase a new system. Production of R-22 refrigerant is winding down, and while the cost will go up, production will occur until 2020. At that time recycled refrigerants should be obtainable for a while.
Because of this change, Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning provides R410A, a more environmentally friendly solution for refrigerants which lowers the impact on the ozone layer. Almost half of home energy costs may go toward heating and cooling the home. At Service Experts, our experts are committed to providing you with products that are less taxing on the environment while achieving your desire for a comfortable heating and cooling system.
