Four Tips for Furnace Repair

Published on April 15, 2016
Furnace Repair Tips from Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning

Springtime may technically be here but in North America it’s not all warm and snug outside. Your furnace has been running for months striving to keep the inside of your home comfortable, so now is the time to show your furnace some love. If you hear abnormal noises or the heating system has shut down, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice a strong gas smell, you almost surely need furnace repair work and you should call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning promptly.

Before you jump to the conclusion that you need a furnace repair technician, check out these tips from Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

  • Confirm your thermostat is set to “heat.”

It may sound obvious, but we are always running and life happens, so it can be easy to miss the simple fixes. Not remembering to move over the thermostat can make you think you need furnace repair when really you can remedy the problem with a literal flip of the switch!

  • Check your furnace switch.

Since we’re talking about switches, make sure your furnace switch is moved to the up, or “on” position. As before, an easy miss, especially when you remember this switch isn’t one you actually look at usually. Most furnaces have built-in delays so give it a few minutes for your furnace to get going before panicking about needing our furnace repair man.

  • Change your furnace air filter.

You should swap out your home’s air filters around every three months to help your system run more efficiently and prolong any furnace repair work. A filthy air filter is one of the most recurrent reasons for poor performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for bacteria and cause you and your loved ones to become sick. Change your filter to keep both your furnace and your family healthy.

  • Check the circuit breaker.

Check your circuit breaker panel to see if the breaker that controls your furnace is in the middle position or the “off” position. If the breaker has ended up in the middle position, cycle the breaker to “off” and then reset it to the “on” position.

Furnace repairs get to be pricey, so avoid a potential issue altogether with ongoing maintenance from Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning. However, if you are ever in need of furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to provide all your heating needs.
