From time-to-time terrible things can happen to wonderful people. And sometimes, these people redirect their misfortune into an occasion to assist others. Men and women of the HVAC industry know a man who did just that. His name is Joe Groh, and he lives here in the Dallas TX metro area.
Joe was employed in the HVAC industry for close to 30 years before a biking accident resulted in him being paralyzed from the neck down. Regardless of his immobility, Joe wanted to stay involved in the HVAC industry, so he founded the Joseph Groh Foundation. The foundation works with companies in the construction trades industries, including plumbing, HVAC, electrical and roofing, to offer short and long-term disability insurance for their employees. It also acts as an information vehicle on spinal cord injuries.
The Joseph Groh Foundation also offers financial assistance to those in the industry or their family members who have experienced a life changing injury or illness. Recipients have used money from the foundation in a number of ways, such as making homes wheel chair accessible by widening doorways, adding access ramps, redoing flooring and purchasing adaptive equipment. To answer financial assistance requests, the foundation holds a variety of fundraisers over the course of the year.
Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning regularly supports Joe and his goal to help others in the HVAC industry that have been impacted by a life altering accident and was proud to sponsor one of the Joseph Groh Foundation’s recent golf tournament fundraisers. The Service Experts Tournament for the Joseph Groh Foundation took place at Coyote Ridge Golf Club in the Dallas TX metro area on May 4. With 131 golfers on the links this year, the tournament generated more than $52,000.
“We are happy to support Joe and his efforts to assist others with his real life message of inspiring hope through adversity,” says Scott Boxer, CEO and President of Service Experts. “Whether it’s in North America or the nearly 85 markets across North America, Service Experts is committed to the communities we serve.”
While Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning supports a number of charities and organizations across North America, we’re extremely proud to give back to organizations in the AC and furnace industry. To learn more about the Joseph Groh Foundation, visit josephgrohfoundation.org.
