Home Comfort Trends for 2017

February 08, 2017

Envision it: you are collecting your things at work and miles away at your home, the range powers on to prepare dinner. The AC system is notified and lowers the temperature to deliver more cool air to counteract the oven’s extra heat. When you come home the lights automatically turn on as you enter, dinner is ready, and your home is at a comfortable temperature.

That’s the goal! And also the type of advanced home interconnectivity that is accessible now and 2017 could be an essential year for advancements in how your home’s heating and cooling systems function as part of the team.

“Smart phones revolutionized our lives in part because they allowed numerous apps to make our lives easier and richer,” said Rob Haines, Marketing Manager for Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning. “We forecast that in 2017, developers will be centering on more new apps that permit all your home’s systems and appliances to interact opposed to being siloed, and this will create breakout new advancements in how your home’s heating and air conditioning system work.”

Smart thermostats and newer, updated HVAC systems can already send notifications to you about energy use and regular maintenance such as filter changes. Future systems might even be able to diagnose a potential equipment failure before it happens and notify your heating and cooling repair company to contact you and set up a technician’s visit. The technician will arrive with advance knowledge about the problem and the required parts to repair it.

Another feature in the making is the use of infrared heat sensing inside the home that will decifer which rooms are in use by family and guests and actually direct heating and cooling specifically to those rooms.

“Zoned heating and air conditioning systems have been one of the fastest growing parts of the HVAC industry for several years, and that will remain a huge opportunity,” said Haines. “Also, systems will concentrate on heating and cooling specific regions of the home as needed to improve comfort and energy efficiency.”

And yes, Haines adds, the millennials are driving the trends for at-home connectivity and more efficient heating and cooling systems. “As millennials invest in their homes, they require their home systems like heating and air conditioning to not only do what they are told, but to monitor and adapt themselves and to proactively provide feedback to the homeowner. We also see that the millennials and Generation X are much more sophisticated about energy efficiency and those consequences of their heating and air conditioning systems.”

While right now is a great time to look at trends for the year, it’s also a perfect time to look into savings that will pay off in the future.
