I personally have lost confidence
We had been longtime customers of Hays, which was acquired by Service Experts. When our upstairs AC stopped working, we called Service Experts. They were able to locate us in their system and, thankfully, schedule a technician for the following morning.
After inspecting our system, the Service Experts technician told us that our compressor was bad. Even though our system was still under the warranty we originally had through Hays, we were quoted approximately $4,800 for the repair, including the associated parts and labor.
Before spending that kind of money, we decided to get a second opinion.
We called Local Roots Air, and they had David Holland at our house approximately two hours after we called. In less than 10 minutes, David diagnosed the problem as a failed capacitor and a loose wire — not a failed compressor.
The capacitor replacement cost approximately $250. David made the repair, addressed the loose wire, and our air conditioner is now working great.
I completely understand that technicians can sometimes reach different conclusions and that misdiagnoses can happen. However, the difference between these two diagnoses is extremely difficult for me to overlook. We went from being told that our compressor had failed and facing a $4,800 repair to having our system diagnosed and repaired for approximately $250.
I'm not going to speculate about anyone's intentions. I can only state exactly what happened at our home. Based on this experience, I personally have lost confidence in the diagnosis and recommendation we received from Service Experts. When a customer is being asked to spend nearly $5,000, I believe a diagnosis of a failed compressor should be thoroughly verified before that recommendation is made.
I would strongly encourage anyone who receives a major HVAC repair estimate to get a second opinion before authorizing the work. In our case, doing so potentially saved us thousands of dollars.
As for Local Roots Air and David Holland, they earned our business. David was prompt, straightforward, quickly identified the problem, explained what he found, and made a reasonably priced repair that got our AC running again. We were impressed enough with the experience that we signed up for their annual maintenance program for both of our AC systems.
Definitely an Asset to the Company
Hayden was very professional. Definitely an asset to the company. Cleaned our hot water heater and gave us recommendations regarding our toilet. Would definitely request him again.
Professional and Under Estimate
Clint Backus and his partner were professional and addressed our concerns and actually came in under the estimate for the repair. There were zero sales tactics to pressure us to buy a new AC unit, which has happened with other HVAC companies. The two of them were also former employees from Hayes Heating and Cooling, which was our longtime trusted HVAC company, so they understood just how much we trusted Hayes.

Another Amazing Plumbing Service with Hayden
Not sure where to write a new review 07/17/2026, so adding to my previous one last year. Today we had another amazing plumbing service with Hayden. This was a follow-up visit for additional installation of a new kitchen faucet; I had him listen to a recording of our 8-year-old hot water tank. I am again a satisfied customer of Expert Services and new owner of a hot water tank. We can now rest in peace when out of town.
