Generators in Syracuse
Automatic Backup Power Planned for Your Home
A standby generator detects a utility outage and supplies backup power through an automatic transfer switch. Depending on the configuration, it can support essential systems such as heating, refrigeration, sump pumps, security equipment, and medical devices or provide broader whole-home coverage.
We install whole-home generators as part of our residential electrical services. Our planning accounts for your power needs, desired coverage, fuel setup, equipment placement, and property conditions. The result is a permanent backup system designed around your home rather than a portable-generator workaround.
Call (315) 544-3552 to schedule an appointment and discuss a standby generator for your home.
Serving Central New York Homeowners Since 1882
Service Experts Syracuse provides electrical, HVAC, and plumbing services through one local team. That combined capability can be valuable when generator planning involves several home systems.
Our technicians are licensed, insured, and ACE-certified. Their work is backed by the Service Experts Guarantee.
We work with homeowners who want an installed system that responds automatically during an outage. The right setup depends on what needs power, the home’s electrical configuration, and the conditions at the property.
How We Plan a Standby Generator Installation
Generator sizing begins with an electrical load assessment. We identify the appliances, equipment, and circuits the system needs to support because home size alone doesn’t determine the right configuration.
Installation planning considers:
- Power priorities: The essential circuits or broader household loads you want to operate.
- Electrical equipment: The panel, connections, and transfer equipment needed for the selected configuration.
- Fuel setup: The available fuel source and property conditions that affect equipment selection.
- Generator placement: Manufacturer instructions, ventilation, service access, clearances, nearby openings, and combustible materials.
An automatic transfer switch disconnects the home from utility power before supplying generator power, helping prevent dangerous backfeeding into utility lines. Once installed, the system should be tested to confirm that the generator, electrical connections, and selected loads operate as intended.

Efficiency can be improved by using energy-efficient appliances and light bulbs, adding insulation to walls and attics, and sealing air leaks.
-
Signs of electrical service issues include flickering lights, frequent circuit breaker trips, hot or discolored electrical outlets or switches, buzzing sounds from outlets or switches, and burning smells. Another issue is improper outlets in the kitchen or bathroom – which should be GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) outlets. This is a shock-resistant outlet that acts as a safety measure and helps prevent fire hazards since water is a great conductor of electricity.
-
It is recommended that electrical service be inspected at least every 10 years to ensure that it is safe and up to code.
-
Some safety precautions include turning off the power supply before working on any electrical component, using insulated tools, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and following electrical codes and regulations.
-
A licensed electrician can perform an electrical load calculation to determine the right size of service needed for a home or business. This calculation takes into account the electrical needs of appliances, lighting, and other electrical devices.
