Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are getting through the last of the weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during cool nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than laying down at night just to realize your furnace won’t start up. If this happens to you, here are a couple things you can check yourself prior to calling Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters every 30 days. If you don’t, they can end up clogged, restricting air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the actual room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t run. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem ridiculous, but make sure the power switch next to the heating equipment is “On.” Even gas heating equipment uses electricity so verify the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently flipped to the “Off” position.

If you inspect all these things and your heating equipment will still not kick on, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 866-397-3787 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
