Tempe’s Backflow Compliance Requirements
Under Chapter 33, Article V of the Tempe City Code and Arizona Administrative Code rule R18-4-215, most commercial, industrial, and non-single-family residential customers are required to install and maintain an approved backflow prevention assembly on their water service connection. Single-family residences used solely for residential purposes are generally exempt. Permits for installation or replacement are issued by Tempe’s Building Safety Division, and our team is familiar with that process.

If you believe you have a leak but can’t see the signs, check your water meter:
- Make sure no water is being used inside or outside your home.
- Check the leak indicator on your water meter. The indicator is commonly a triangular dial or miniature silver wheel. If the dial is spinning, you probably have a leak.
