How To Prevent Common Winter Plumbing Problems

This time of year brings so much excitement Ð cute trick-or-treaters, family congregated around Thanksgiving tables, and the magic of the holidays. But with the wonderful comes the terrible. The cool weather and extreme temperatures can cause a whole medley of plumbing problemsService Experts is here with some preventative measures to help you minimize your chance of facing these common winter plumbing problems.

Frozen Pipes

Your pipes becoming frozen is a common plumbing problem for the U.S.. This typically happens when high water pressure in the main water pipe combines with freezing temperatures. To help keep this from occurring in your home, leave a faucet a little open to let water continuously flow through. If you do discover a frozen pipe, turn off the main water supply to prevent the pipe from bursting. Try warming the frozen area of the pipe with heated water and if that doesn't work, give Service Experts a call and we’ll send one of our qualified plumbers out to look at the problem.

Broken Water Line

An opening or break in your water piping could cause significant damage to your home. Water piping cracks or breaks are typically because of a frozen garden hose. If you forget to disconnect your hose from your water spout following a freeze, the ice inside can force pressure to build up in your home’s water piping and result in a leak or a break. To prevent this situation, ensure your garden hoses are drained and disconnected prior to freezing temperatures.

Failing Hot Water Systems

If your hot water heater is not working as well as expected, confirm the temperature is set high enough. If you have a gas water heater, be sure the pilot light is still lit. If everything is set correctly and lit properly, call Service Experts so we can send out an expert plumber to figure out what’s going on. To prevent this issue altogether, ensure you are having your hot water heater serviced annually and it’s better if you service it well before cooler temperatures arrive. Call (866) 963-7996 or schedule online to ensure you don’t get left without warm water this winter.
