How to prep your home for air conditioning installation

So you’ve recognized that it’s time to upgrade your existing air conditioning system to a more energy efficient system. Congratulations! You’re buying in to your family’s comfort as well as the decreasing of your energy bills and responsible consumption of energy. While those are all great things there are still a couple other things you can do to ready your North America home before you get going with the air conditioning installation process.

1. Review the Manual J Heating and Cooling Load

First of all, the AC contractor should have conducted what’s called a heating and cooling load calculation. This involved calculation takes into account the home’s structure, roof, windows, direction and location to determine the size and type of equipment needed. Ask to see the load calculation and have it explained to you. If the contractor did what’s referred to as a Block Assessment, or did not complete a load calculation at all, we would strongly recommend finding another contractor or calling Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning at 866-397-3787. Your North America HVAC professional will be able to provide you a full assessment.

2. Clean and Seal Ducts.

Next, have the company clean your ductwork. It’s not smart to introduce caked on dirt and dust from a decades old duct system to your brand new air conditioning system. The health of your complete system and the quality of the air you breathe kicks off with your ducts delivering clean air, so make sure that they are cleaned and correctly sealed by the HVAC contractor. If you can’t remember the last time you had your ducts cleaned or have never had them cleaned, have the contractor do a duct cleaning in advance of your new AC installation.

3. Clear a Path.

Prior to the air conditioner installation you will also want to clear the area where equipment will be installed, and ensure it is easy to access. There are stairs, landscaping porches, decks or other things close to the AC, clear the area as best as you can. Ensure the area is clear of yard waste like big sticks and leaf piles so installation is even simpler. Also make sure to clear away anything else that could get in your installation expert’s way such as garden hoses, rakes, or children’s toys. Make sure pets are caged so they do not get in the way of the installation crew.

Think you’re ready to move forward with the air conditioning installation process? Call the pros at Service Experts in North America at 866-397-3787 or schedule an appointment online for a free home comfort analysis and system upgrade estimate.
