When the DFW area Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning locations (Calverley Service Experts, Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning Plano/DFW, and Levy and Son) were getting ready to sponsor the Walk MS events in North Dallas and Fort Worth, they had the idea to offer an APCO to the event participants.
“Service Experts thought an APCO Air Purifier was the ideal product to auction off since this spring the company has been all about saving the air, and it helps remove germs and contaminants from your air that can exacerbate allergies and respiratory ailments,” said Rob Haines, Marketing Manager for Service Experts.
Kim Speck was the winner of the Fresh-Aire UV APCO Air Purifier when her bid came in highest at the Dallas Walk MS event. Kim first discovered the APCO a few months before when she saw an article talking about the seriousness of indoor air quality.
“I didn’t pay much attention at the time because I didn’t comprehend its compatibility with just about any heating and air conditioning system, and thought it was another one of those “luxuries” that was beyond my budget. When I discovered it again at the Walk MS event, everyone was talking about the importance of good indoor air quality for MS sufferers and I instantly thought of my father.”
Kim’s father was in his 90s and had been living with COPD for over 20 years. He had been on oxygen at all times for the past four years.
“The allergens in his air bothered him even though I would install the more expensive 3M Filtrate brand of filters. They just weren’t helping. He often caught pneumonia but he had only left the house over the past four years to see his doctors.”
The pneumonia meant Kim’s father spent a minimum of two months in the hospital and rehabilitation facility. In the time leading up to the Walk MS event in Addison, Kim’s father had spent three weeks in the hospital and two days at the rehab facility recuperating from two strings of pneumonia. After seeing her father suffer so much, Kim decided she was going to “roll the dice” and try to win the APCO, which would not only help her dad get some “clean” air, but the proceeds also went to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Kim was elated when she found out she had bid the highest and planned on calling to get the APCO installed in her father’s home before he was sent home from the rehab clinic. Regrettably, just three days after the MS Walk, Kim’s father came home to hospice care and passed away peacefully just a few days later. The APCO arrived a week later.
Kim had the APCO installed in her own home because her husband has problems with allergies. A few weeks after it was put in, she was cooking onions and noted she couldn’t smell any odors once she finished. She’s happy to experience the long-term effects of her APCO air purifier.
All of us here at Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning are keeping Kim and her family in our thoughts and prayers.
